When Denton voted 59 percent in favor of banning fracking within city limits, agree or not, city council clearly knew the will of the voters. A majority were sufficiently concerned about the potential health, safety, and environmental risks to keep this activity out of populated areas. But when the state legislature made the ban moot with HB 40, the city faced a choice. Council voted to repeal the fracking ban rather than defend it. Who were they representing? Not the will of the voters.
